Loop the loop - St Ives Library

Past Event - 02 June – 14 June 2014 Monday, Wednesday, Friday (9.30am - 5.00pm), Saturday morning (10am - 1pm)

Loop the Loop was a project between artist/filmmaker Joanna Mayes and Cornwall Libraries, with a number of South West artists. This two-week programme gave the chance to explore St Ives library through film, installation, music and performance.

Alongside the Loop the Loop programme of events (see below) you can drop in to St Ives library and enjoy:

The Reading Room: Joanna Mayes and Interior Designer Kerry Knight from Beaten Green create an installation, a unique environment for you to consider the choices that are made about which books your library keeps, and which are withdrawn. Joanna will also be taking and processing 16mm film, using Caffenol (instant coffee) during the event, giving a glimpse into the world of the contemporary artist/filmmaker. mayescreative.com/www.beatengreen.co.uk

Silence In The Library: Films generated on 16mm film will be looped and shown on the library’s information screen, giving visitors a chance to see a range of processes and approaches to working with cine film in a contemporary artistic context. Films created during the event will also be added throughout. Presented by CineStar in collaboration with no.w.here artist film cooperative. cinestar.org.uk/www.no-w-here.org.uk

Inspired by Books:  St Ives artist Joe Greenaway will be showing a series of works created in spray paint and acrylic. Joe’s work is a collision between ‘fine’ art and ‘street’ techniques, blending the spontaneous use of a spray can with the meticulous process of painted portraiture. Joe will also be sharing a collection of art books which inspire and support his work. www.joegreenaway.com
